Roadmap for eyeOS 1.3 published | eyeOS 1.2.0.3 released
By Pau Garcia-Milà | November, 23 2007 | Releases
We’re proud to announce the release of the Roadmap for the next version of eyeOS, 1.3.0, which will be released by December 27th.
The new eyeOS 1.3.0 version (the last one before 2008) will bring new applications to the system, such as eyeSheets (which was delayed from 1.2.0), with support for Microsoft Excel documents, a new eyeCalendar with collaboration between users and more views (week, month and day), and big improvements in eyeFiles. The new version will also include big desktop and system improvements, such as right click actions, new widgets and much more. You can see the roadmap here.
We have also released today a bugfix release for the current version of eyeOS: eyeOS 1.2.0.3 includes bug fixes for eyeFTP (with support for folders with spaces on their names and other small fixes -see its Page-), eyeManageApps (with better support for IE7 and Opera) and the VFS service (with better support for some UTF characters).
The new release can be downloaded from the Downloads page. Enjoy it!
The eyeOS User Manual
By Pau Garcia-Milà | November, 20 2007 | Releases, Tips & Tricks, eyeOS - General
We’re proud to announce the new eyeOS User Manual (PDF - 25 pages), a handbook which explains how to use eyeOS, from the creation of a new account to the usage of the common applications and system customization.
It’s thought to be printed and consulted when using eyeOS, by end-users, who may not have technical knowledges.
The new user manual is an important step on working with eyeOS in a production environment, as a first help for the eyeOS users.

If you are interested in translating the eyeOS Manual to your language, please contact us at team@eyeos.org and we’ll send you the necessary files. Thanks!
Announcing the new eyeOS Applications Community
By Pau Garcia-Milà | November, 15 2007 | Website, eyeOS - General
From the first months of life of eyeOS, we have been developing a Software Community around the project (called eyeApps firstly and Packages Center from eyeOS 1.0), because having a community around the Applications developed by all the eyeOS Developers in the world is a really important part inside the eyeOS Project.
So finally, after a few weeks of preparation and collaboration with the great people from Opendesktop.org, which manage communities like KDE-Look, Gnome-Look and KDE-Apps (and 16 other communities), we can announce the new eyeOS Applications Community : eyeOS-apps.org.
This new community introduces a great system that allows any developer to upload and mantain it’s eyeOS Applications directly and automatically, allowing users to vote and comment each application.
It also introduces a place where any eyeOS user can send Screenshtos of his/her customized eyeOS Desktop and System.
We want to thank Opendesktop.org for working with us for this new community, specially Frank Karlitschek.
We have been porting the existent apps from the ancient community, and you can go there with the new address or use the old ones, eyeApps.org and packages.eyeos.org.
Enjoy the new community!
Guidelines for installing eyeOS locally
By Pau Garcia-Milà | November, 3 2007 | Tips & Tricks
After seeing some people in the Forums asking for help about installing eyeOS on their local Operating System, we have started a series of HOWTO’s about installing eyeOS locally, step by step and with screenshot tours, in some different Operating Systems.
The actual tutorials are:
How to install eyeOS on Debian Etch
How to install eyeOS on Ubuntu Gutsy
How to install eyeOS on Windows XP
We’ll be expanding the list to new OSes soon. If you would like to see a tutorial like these in your SO, please leve a comment here.

Softpedia has tested the latest stable eyeOS version and written a great review of the whole system, from the installation process, to the first steps of the base applications.
The review explains the good and bad parts of the system, and adds a very nice conclusion of the actual eyeOS System: 5 out of 5 points!
We do our best to produce a quality open source piece of software, and reading large reviews about it gives us an idea of how is the project and how can be improved. In this case, we can just say something to the Softpedia Team (and Marius Nestor, the reviewer): Thanks!
The review is available here.
