eyeOS 1.5 Release Candidate 2 Released
By Pau Garcia-Milà | January, 7 2008 | Development
We’re happy to announce the second RC for the next eyeOS version 1.5.
The first RC has had a very great success in eyeOS community, with +-500 testers working and testing in the online RC tests server, and we want to thank everybody who is helping to make the most stable eyeOS release ever.
This second RC (that can be tested from the Online Server that we have prepared for testing and which is always updated) includes lots of bug fixes and visual improvements:
- eyeFiles now shows the two final blocks (for allowing actions without right click menus). Note that tree block will be improved visually for the final release.
- eyeCalendar is now much more stable and works under Internet Explorer.
- Right click menus (desktop, eyeFiles…) have been visually standarized and are now using eyeOS graphics.
- eyeFTP has been upgraded to 3.0 RC1. Tests and notes on this new version of eyeFTP will be greatly welcomed.
- Office support has been improved
- eyeControl does provide a new Desktop interface.
Note that all the users from the previous RC1 in the tests server have been mantained, however, we recommend to create a new user to test this new release in a fresh new desktop (which will include more apps in eyeDock than the previous RC1, for example).
Lots of small bugs reported in the Release Candidates Bug Reports have been solved. Please keep reporting and making together the best eyeOS release! The new version tarball can be downloaded from here (note that it’s a self installed eyeOS only for testing pruposes).

Could we also have an updated translation table released with the final 1.5 eyeOs version ?
The current one is relatively old…
Thanks

In EyeMessage, is it possible to add the replay to a message?

I found a Bug:
In EyeSPread Sheets, if I want to save an empty document, a error message comes. I was using tis candidate 2, xampp web server run on Vista, and the Internet Explorer. And in Opera the right-click menus don’t function, Opera is my favorite browser, It’ll be nice if it would work on it too.

One more thing to eyeOS: Could you make an function that i coult make an eyepackage file than installs an design? On eyeos-apps.com in the design files you need to upload it manually.

One last thing:

A bug again: In the eyeNavigator, if you click on “full screen” (up, eight, left beside the ‘close’ cross”) It opens to full screen, but i can still move it and the “full screen” symbol dosen’t turn into the minimizing symbol!

One more:
On the very down the window, there is this bar, if you open a window in that bat is the name of the window. and if you open and set eyeNav to “full screen”, then this bar is there where the left / right scrollthing schould have been (only in big websites there is a left / right scroll thing), theis bar is transparent, so you can see the scroller, but you can’t scroll with it.

One more: In the System Preferences, on “General” , the “allow user registration” and the “allow public dirs” doesen’t seem to function; if you tick both ant click “save changes”, they get unticked, and even if both are acrivated, theyre unticked.

One thing that would ber really nice is theat an root user can set other users as root users, you could think about that when making vers. 1.5.1.0

could you connect the Navigator to the RSS Newsfeed reader so the Navigator detects Newsfeeds and gives the on command to the RSS reader?
And: that stuff i saw in eyeos is prtty cool - you did really good work.

Some ideas:
Could you make like the root user has access to other user’s files?
A Bug: In the trash the right click isn’t functioning.
In trash the thing “places” isn’t functioning.
In eyefiles left that collumn “files” is empty. you could make like an php thin that checks how many entries are there and figures out how big that colummn shall be.
In eyeFiles in that left colummn again: could you make like a plus or a minus so i know wheather there is something in that folder or not.
In eyeFiles again: if i make my cursor on a pic like on the upload pic or the delete pic, there comes an alternative text like “action_img_4″ or “right_textbox_img”, You should change it to more common words like “Upload”.
On the desktop, if you make an rightclick on the symbol “Home”, then one on “Software”, you’ve 2 rightclick windows opened.

The file names bug is still there.
File names with special characters, will not play in mp3 player. Allso the mp3 player stays on top even if other windows has focus. There is a solution for this.
