We’re proud to announce the immediate availability of eyeOS 1.8.6. The new version can be downloaded (for installing a new eyeOS system or upgrading an existing environment), and/or used directly from the free server. This is an special version, since it’s the first eyeOS version to include code donated to eyeOS from a company. Persolive made a professional eyeOS project and donated some interesting features that we’re presenting today with this release. We want to thank them a lot for this.
This new version includes a full new interface to be used from iPhone’s browser. With the new interface (accessible through /iphone/ in any eyeOS install, or directly redirected when entering with an iPhone) you can’t just view content, but also create content (contacts, calendar events, rss feed entries…).
eyeOS 1.8.6 also introduces the brand new eyeMail, the eyeOS Mail Client which disappeared on eyeOS 1.5, including now support for IMAP and POP3 mail accounts, multiple inboxes and autoconfiguration for some web mails -e.g. Gmail-.
Small improvements like warnings when closing the current tab / window, being able to send messages to groups and multiple users, improved system messages (not overlapping anymore) have been also included in this release. The full Release Notes text can be read here.

Thanks to everybody who has participated, and enjoy this new version!

Crap, I was going to release an iPhone app for the contest. It was already finished.
Hi Niku,
That’s bad news! I’m so sorry
. The iPhone versio was in SVN since before announcing the contest!!!
However, there is no iphone app to connect to eyeOS yet.
Great, that is a very nice addition.
But I wonder : why call the directory /iphone/ since it’s more a mobile version of eyeos ? It’s not iPhone specific, I access it on my Android device.
niku, thinking it better, present your iPhone app to the contest if you the work is partly done!
Steren,
There is also /mobile/ which is a non-specific version of mobile eyeOS. The iphone one is thought to be used from Safari’s browser from iPhones. It may work also on Android (since the browser is also based on webkit) but there could be soon an /android/ version specific for android browser.
I love to hear that soon we will see an android version
Very nice job with the iphone one, tomorrow I will test it.
See you soon!
Guys, the idea behind the project is awesome – I have been observing your development ever since Cloud was not a hot word
I am thinking though – if you go mobile, you should not discriminate and next to iPhone you should launch BlackBerry and WinMo as well. I would simply adore the option to use my eyeOS on my mobile but it is unlikely a Fortune500 company will change from BlackBerry to iPhone anytime soon…

you’ve finally done a powerfull client : that was a key piece missing .
very nice job indeed.
eliane
very very nice!
I guess I’ll have to watch the SVN (I’ll also have to learn how to use that) just to make sure I’m not doing something already done.
No, It’s not an iPhone app. It’s also an iPhone interface for eyeOS. I don’t even own an iPhone, my buddy has got one.

Doing some browsing and noticed your site looks a bit confusedin my K-meleon internet browser. But fortunately hardly anyone uses it any longer but you may want to look into it.
Alot of bloggers not really pleased with the new iPad.There was 2 much hoopla about it and alot people got turned off.Thing is, I for one see some of the cool potential uses of the device. Third-party apps for making tunes, games, papers and magazine and books, all sorts of awesome stuff, but they failed to sell it properly (aside from the books). It looks kind of not finished
