Since its first release, eyeos has been an Open Source project. Everyone who ever wanted to participate has been welcomed and it’s thanks to the global efforts from hundreds of people around the world that eyeos is today leading the web desktops.
That’s why we are working on improving the connection between eyeos team (the group of people who creates eyeos from its headquarters) with the whole eyeos community, who does the hard job here (spreading the word around the world). We must keep improving here, and we’ll do our best.
EyeOS has today 11 active communities, and we want this number to be increased. We’re opening today a new eyeos page: The Official Communities page. From that page, anyone can see how eyeos communities are organized, how to join them or how to create and lead a new one.
But… How can I help?
Now it’s an interesting moment to get involved into eyeos, because we are working on eyeos 2.0 and we would like people from eyeos communities to get involved with its development and testing.
There are a lot of things that the community can do to improve eyeos:
Test
Eyeos 2.0 will need a lot of testing to be prepared for its official release on January 1st, 2010. We would like to invite everyone from eyeos communities to play, try, test and enjoy the technology preview (and new tech previews that will be released soon) and reporting problems and suggestions in the eyeos forums. You can download the technology preview for developers here.
Develop
Developing applications for eyeos it’s a good way to join the project. You may have ave a good idea… Please, develop it. It’s easy! If you would like to develop but you do not know what do to, there is a TODO list with a lot of ideas for eyeos 2.0! Please, read more at http://wiki.eyeos.org.
Translate
We know that there are some eyeos community members who don’t know how develop apps for eyeos. There is really important things to do other than programming. Translate is a good way to get involved on eyeos and help lots of people who would like to use it but can’t do it because of the language.
Spread
An official community can work in different ways. For example, you can contribute and work on localized blogs, organize and talk at conferences about eyeos, Open Source and cloud computing or simply giving ideas.
Visit the new eyeos community page and join your local community!
