eyeOS and IBM – Working together

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

We’re happy to present to the eyeOS community the result of more than six months of work together with the great IBM US team, where eyeOS will be the Sample Workload of the new System Z serie Solution Edition for Cloud Computing. System Z is the IBM brand used to produce their mainframe servers, used worldwide by governments, big companies and thousands of organizations.

As some of you noticed, eyeOS was approved and introduced to the IBM’s Global Solution Directory two months ago.

We want to share this moment to every single person of the eyeOS community, since this pushes the eyeOS project as the leader of Cloud Computing desktops , especially on the Open Source world. It also represents its expansion as a powerful, scalable platform working with one of the biggest IT corporations in the world.

We have released a new site (ibm.eyeos.org) with extra details and information for IBM customers to expand the possibilities of using eyeOS in their System Z servers.

Introducing eyeSheets 2

Friday, December 11th, 2009

It’s time now to introduce eyeSheets 2 because eyeos 2.0 will also update its spreedsheets application. In the 2.0 version eyeSheets will be redesigned and new features will be added to provide its capabilities.

The eyeos team has been working to create an application capable to work with other Spreedsheets products such as Open Office or Microsoft Excel. Some new features that eyeSheets 2 will bring are:

  • Formulas, to assign values to a cell or range of cells, with the typical format: (=expression) as functions, arithmetic and relational operators.
  • Conditional Formating, that will allow the user to apply format to a cell or range of cells.
  • Graphs, charts and histograms, to be generated from specified groups of cells which are dynamically re-built as cell contents change. The generated graphics component can either be embedded within the current page or added as a separate object.
  • Cell locking, to prevent accidental overwriting.

Stay tuned for new presentations (we’re close to the date ;-) )

eyeos 1.9 Preview released!

Monday, December 7th, 2009

After quite some time, we are very happy to announce the preview release of eyeos 1.9 “Mars”, which is the result of months of work from the eyeos team and eyeos community on both the eyeos platform and case applications.

Attention, testers:
There are still several days before the final release of 1.9, so a bit of community testing would be greatly appreciated! Now is the most crucial time to report bugs (which can be done via the official Bug Reporter). The official Release Notes for the 1.9 Preview can be found here.

Test it!

As we have with previous preview releases, an official “testing” server has been made available for the public. Please use it only for testing 1.9, as it’ll be removed when the official release has been made available:
Preview server: http://preview.eyeos.org/ (soon!)
