    “showing eyeOS”…

    Do you mean “showing mock up of a non existing OS” ? At the moment, we are still waiting for a “stable” release (which was initially planned for 1st January… but maybe 2011).

    My opinion is that eyeOS team should spend less time promoting a non existing product and more time developing it. People here are fed up with this blablabla.

    @marc

    Are all the negative comments really necessary?

  3. John says:

    I updated from 9.0 to 9.1 and now both menus on the desktop are gone they do not show up.

  4. karl says:

    “…necessary to move operating systems and desktops to the cloud”

    How is it necessary? I still wouldn’t trust a third-party to all my data. And most ISPs won’t allow customers to self host a private web server with eyeOS (at least where I am). eyeOS is still nice as a local intranet service though.

    Cloud computing doesn’t work so well if you have a 10GiB/month bandwidth cap.

    Give these guys a little time. They are actually rocking!!

  6. owen says:

    Hopefully with pressure from some of these companies eyeos has been appealing to, the development process will speed up and/or we’ll see a working (albeit with bugs, some incompleteness, etc.) program in the coming weeks. Don’t worry eyeos Team, I still believe that you guys can and will get this done in a timely fashion!

  7. ecr21 says:

    damn my client is really eager to use eyeos 2 (1.x isnt enough since there is no proper collaboration possible). Please release at least a proper beta so we can start working on apps / themes etc.

    Thank you

  8. You are downloading this soft for free.So…what the fuck ? If you want better soft,create your own !

  9. Narazana says:

    First off, eyeOS is a great software. No doubt that eyeOS team is putting alot
    of time and effort, to be precise time and asset, to make the system work very
    well. Please, understand the eyeOS team for making a great software available
    for free and open source. Thank you for the contribution to the world.

    I understand at some point such a great software is getting serious attention from
    the big companies and Yes it’s good chance that eyeOS is promoting its product
    and services. Even though, some time in the future we’ll end up having two different
    licenses or versions of eyeOS, commercial license with more features and suport and
    free and open source or community version with limited features and support;
    I have no problem with that and it’s so reasonable to do so…do some real bussiness
    and make some profit to support the development of the eyeOS.

    You have been helping the community around the world so much with this product.
    Whatever, you do I wish you, eyeOS team, all the best. And Thank You once again for
    giving eyeOS to the world.

    Publishing software under an open source licence and providing it for “free” is a generous act at first sight, but there is also an economic reason behind it. This phenomenon is called “Crowd-Sourcing”. Yes, I don’t have to pay money directly to the eyeOS company in Spain, but when I do testing and bug reporting I spend my free time which is at least worth 20€/hour for me. So actually, I spend a couple of hundreds of euros for a software that might (sic!) be good/what I want.

    And yes, the eyeOS team should spend more time communicating with its community and working on 2.0 instead of doing fancy promo (which can be done when the software is ready and working).

  11. FSX says:

    @marc: You forgot about 1.x. True, the presentation probably will be on 2.0.

    I do agree that the project has painted a less positive picture of itself recently (the shabby 1.9 launch and the slow response to 2.0 things). I can understand this, though: they are maintaining two branches at once! After 2.0 comes out, things might get better.

  12. romski says:

    To all that winy, angry, annoyed and irritated people:

    you feel one of the above listed emotional states? its ok and completly normal!
    BUT ask yourself this question:

    Do you write any complaining or even insulting mails to microsoft or adidas for not releasing the next version of a os or sneaker?

    What did you personally accomplish to the eyeOS 2.0 development? -bougabouga!

    Keep calm and patient and imagine you would do a great job, create something big and new while people would accuse you to be to slow! demotivating isnt it?

    @Silencer: Fancy Promo???? WTF! convincing industry and instituions means making eyeos popular and is essential for durability and further development. all these negative mindset behind unqualified comments makes me rage!

    @EyeOs team: what time dou you think you will finally relaese 2.ooooooo ??? LOL

  13. eyeos.bangla says:

    We are rocking.

  14. Silencer says:

    @romski
    Bitte entspann dich Alter!
    How about you; are you a beta tester? Did you get any feedback I didn’t? I am tired of logging into 2.0 private beta, not knowing if something changed. It seems since one month nothing has been updated.
    There is almost no communication with testers and the community about the status of 2.0, no infos about the extent of cooperation with IBM etc. I know, promo is very important, but I don’t know what they could show someone interested in 2.0 except some fancy screenshots. I think for making eyeos popular it is essential to have at least a real working beta showing what it can actually do. And popularity doesn’t come from industry presentations alone, please don’t forget the power of ordinary people.

    Regarding the status of 2.0: Nanawel wrote in the forum on 12. of February that “the 2.x won’t be stable until some months”.
    http://forums.eyeos.org/index.php/topic,5462.msg22362.html#msg22362
    When I should estimate the release date from the progress of the last month and the current bug list, 2.0 wouldn’t be ready before late 2010 or even 2011.

  15. Hifzu says:

    All those who don’t like the progress of eyeOS 2, why not stick with eyeOS 1.9 for now?

  16. Silencer says:

    @Hifzu
    This is what we actually do :) .

  17. RonNol says:

    I have spent more than 30 years in this business. I can create a long list of products that were great but never made it because of how they were marketed. As a person with real problems to solve, I need (not want) to see the 2.0 release in days and weeks, not months. Because my problems dont wait. If no movement happens on the release, I will be forced to move to a different platform. Once there, I am not likely to move a second time. The clock it ticking….
