After several months of hard work we’re happy to announce today the immediate availability of the first official release of eyeOS 2.0 Beta. And even more: the new release doesn’t come alone but with the brand new eyeOS.org website, which has not ben redesigned for the last 2 years now. eyeOS 2.0 Beta can be downloaded from the new downloads page and tested from a Beta test server in eyeOS.info.
Today is a really special day for the eyeOS project. This new release includes a new, improved way to develop applications, a new desktop based on the great Qooxdoo library. It would have been impossible without the work of dozens of people working at eyeOS and now, more than ever, we need to be a giant team from everywhere in the world, working together on testing, debugging and translating this new version. A translation tool will be made available during the next few days.
What’s new?
eyeOS 2.0 Beta comes with the base desktop, users filesystem and the 5 base applications. From those, the files manager has been the main focus on the development. Note that this release includes some unestable apps, as Documents, Spreadsheets or Calendar, for example.
eyeOS 2.1 will be focused on the administration tools and office suite. A more detailed roadmap will be published soon. Please understand that while the system is stable now, the base apps must be seen as beta status and testing is really important right now. To report bugs and wishes please use the SourceForge tracker.
Social Bar
With the Social Bar you can know on every moment the collaborative status of the document your are working. Social Bar appears on every app which can be used collaboratively.
Groups
The groups allows you to work in a collaborative way with eyeOS 2.0 Beta. With a group you can, for example, share files with your contacts.
Events
The events shows you the actions of your eyeOS 2.0 Beta account. New invitations for groups, pending contacts or shared files, for example.
Widgets
In the new version of eyeOS, the desktop concept has been rethought. Instead of just using the desktop to display a group of icons and a background, we decided to use it to display the information that is most helpful to the user. So the home screen is now a series of widgets that show the available applications and the most important information about your session, thus increasing your productivity.

eyeOS 2.0 Beta can be downloaded from this page. Please read carefully the release notes and Installation instructions before downloading eyeOS. If you just want to test the new version before considering downloading it, you can test it from the beta.eyeos.info server. Please note that you must create a new account in this new server before using it.
Please note that for the moment there won’t be an upgrade system from eyeOS 1.x to eyeOS 2.x.

We have opened a new public SVN server so you can track and follow all the development of eyeOS 2.x. The SVN server is located at https://code.eyeos.org/trunk .

Muy bueno chicos!!! Me encanta que se pueda trabajar en grupo, esta super. Lo que no pude es configurar la visualizacion clasica del escritorio, osea, me gustaba mucho la simulacion del escritorio.
Hay alguna forma de poder tener el escritorio del a version 1.9 ?

The installation instructions say that disable_functions has to be empty. Are really no disabled functions allowed, as most shared hosters disable something.

CentOS5 uses php-5.1.6-24.el5_4.5 (if you made the updates), the installation_manual.pdf tells the 5.2 as a requirement.

In conclusion we found a smal bug. Because they implmented an aequivalentversion so in future you wont need 5.2 because the backported such features.
I wish we could just have shared agenda/calendar on 1.X rather than having to wait for the creation of a whole new project just for that one feature, not a fan of the new look either, im sure it’ll be practical but the old desktop view was much sleeker.
Nonetheless, good job on finally getting the beta out, at least now the community can help and bring input, which makes open source so powerful. Will be looking forward to 2.1 so we can start setting up some communities on eyeOS
