We are very glad to announce the immediate availability of eyeOS 2.2, the first 2.x version marked as Stable. With this release we conclude a path started one year ago with the 2.0 announcement, but this release is not just important because of the stability: eyeOS will be celebrating its 5th birthday on August 1st..
The main new features of eyeOS 2.2 are the complete compatibility with all modern browsers (IE 7.x and newer, Firefox , Safari…),a huge improvement on the eyeOS overall speed and the new eyeOS Official Installer that will allow everyone to install an eyeOS server much more easily than before.

Wow!, i’m impressed, just tried it out on your preview server.
Great news! I’m happy to see the 2.2 as stable.
I tested the beta and it was amazing, now it is time to upgrade.
Thank you
I honestly love it except ONE thing…
THIS is actually the first real 2.X version and should be called 2.0. Calling it 2.2 makes no sense as giving numbers to beta versions.
It sounds just like a way to hide that eyeOS 2.0 (initially promised for january 1st) is “just” 8 months late.
So once again, congrats to the team for the hard work and for finally delivering what you promised but please, change your communication. Trying to hide the delay sounds ridiculous.
eyeOS 2.2 feels really stable now. I might actually install it on my own server. However, I noticed the upload panel uses flash. Is there a way to upload files without having flash installed? Or is this on the todo list?
[...] hat das eyeOS Team gestern in ihrem Blog über die neue stabile Version 2.2 geschrieben, mit der auch ein eigener Installer für den [...]
we’ve just installed it, and tested it 3 hours : the speed has increased so much, it’s amazing !!
in my opinion, this is for sure the main goodies of this release : with this kind of performance, we can finally use 2.0 in production for customers.
congratulations to the team !
I cant’ add new Users to my new eyos 2.2 system because the password field is readonly… )-:
I really have to add up with Marc…
2.0 and 2.1 were just Beta 1 and 2…
This is the real first version of the 2.X
Else SMF for example would have already been at SMF 2.6, whilst they use RC release numbers.
I Celebrate New EyeOS 2.2 Statble version !!
But Unfortunately, Korean Language Environment is Missing..
Please.. Add Korean Lang.
..
./eyeos/apps/usersettings/items/myaccount.js: langItems['ko'] = ‘Korean’;
./eyeos/apps/newusersettings/newusersettings.js: langItems['ko'] = ‘Korean’;
EyeDocs hangs.
Too slow to load and use.
Too many dependencies.
v1.9.0.1 should have been developed with MySQL support – atleast it loaded fast and had a simple programming interface.
Thanks for all the work with this release, the collaborative “tools” are briliant.
But I can’t make it to work with my hostprovider, the requirements to make eyeos 2.x to work properly, make it usuablle only to professionals with a dedicated web server.
I will rollback to version 1.x …. maybe version 3.x will be again more “stupid proof” so I be able to install it.
Kindly update the installation manual with the sequence of sql table installs and also the ExifTool can be installed in debian using:
apt-get install libimage-exiftool-perl
I’ve eyeOS 1.9.0.1 and 2.2.0.0 running on WampServer. The only flaw is that 1.9.0.1 is a bit slow and 2.2.0.0 is even slower. DX
But still, it’s good!
Well, I downloaded eyeos-2.2.0.0.tar.gz to my AIX 5.3 machine. Gunziped and untared the downloaded file and created the eyeos directory structure.
The installation manual refers to an “install” page. I did not find anything in the eyeos root. There is also no “index.php” nor “settings.php”.
I did find the SQL files to create the database (even though the directories specified were misnamed.) and created a database, but without the “index.php” and “settings.php”, I get nowhere.
Loved the other versions. Looking forward to new and better versions.
Thanks
mark
I must agree with Fernando. eyeOS 2 is developed with the people with own servers/VPSes in mind, and it’s hard to install 2.x to any crappy host just like it happened with 1.x. Right now I’m trying to install to one of these shared hosting accounts, let’s see if the install gets successful.
It’s prompting for login, how can i login, when I don’t have user id and password.
When will the future major update of eyeos come? Essential application such as EyeOs Office are still unstable thought the OS itself has become stable. Can anyone provide any information?
Hi!
I want to use EyeOS in production site. Which one is better and more stable: 1.9 or 2.2 ?
Please give advice ? Thanx in advance !!
OOServerDaemon not running.. any tip??
thanks..
2.2 is a bit faster than when it got release into the wild but 1.9 with AWS cloud front is GREAT to speed it up. It is still a toy…but getting better
1.9 is stable.
In my opinion 2.2 is experimental. It gives me errors (timeouts on the same host), I can not add users as root (the password field stays readonly), and yes – it`s a bit slow. I don`t know how it will perform when say 100 users are working inside. Without developer manual of the insights in English, I`m going to wait.
“Fully compatibility with modern browsers (IE7, Mozilla Firefox…)”
Not true! EyeOS 2 will actually NOT load in Firefox 4 at the time of this post. It runs fine in IE5 and later, and it also works in Firefox 3.x. Not sure where the problem is in Firefox 4, it’s able to load the title properly but that’s it.
Hello,
I just have the same problem. With firefox 3.0 we can login to our eyeos system, but users that are upgrade to firefox 4.0 have a blank screen… some idea to solve this problem?
Thanks
Hi guys,
I just also had that problem. Then i found out that my OS (open SUSE 11.3) extensions isn’t compatible with the new firefox4. Could the eyeOS team do something about thist, I’m really interested in their product and I kinda like it. THANKS!!
